About Volkswagen Passat
Passat was launched in 1973 and represented, just as the new Volkswagen Golf someting entierly new for VW, sporting front wheel-driva as well as the front mounted engine. Many aspects of this new layout came to VW with the aquisistion of NSU which had been building front wheel driven cars for many years and was known for advanced models like the Wankel-propelled Ro 80. The second generation of Passat was presented in 1981 and was being produced up until 1988 in Germany, but the saloon-verision Santana would be produced largely unchanged up until the early 2010's in China. The latest generation of Passat was introduced late 2014.
